Written for W.A. Week in 1976, it was originally intended as a play "to introduce another play. (It) won an award at the (1976) Big River Festival in Grafton" (Artlook Vol 4. No. 4). There was a reading of "Three O'Clock Farewell" at the 1978 South Australian Festival (with a review by Alan Roberts in The Advertiser.)

The Adelaide Festival reading by the South Australian Theatre Company in 1978 was produced by Roger Chapman and performed by Kevin Miles and Brian James.
