AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'The novel centres on the quest for self. Jimi Thorn has grown up without his father, Joe, an anti-Vietnam activist who engaged in liberal doses of drug-taking, political rallies and Jimi Hendrix. Joe is a child of the sixties, a passionate man who cared about injustice and wanted a better world. He is unable to reach perfect political goals and has 'melted away' out of his small son's life. His existence has been incomplete and he has staggered from one place to the next in search of life's answers. His son, Jimi, has been left a vacuum that needs to be filled. He is prepared to defer university studies, shelve a girlfriend and venture overseas in the hope of locating his father, thereby eliminating the void and establishing a valid network.' Notes

  • Dedication: For my children Jesse, Shannon, Rebecca and Zachariah (and their generations) - to make up for all those stories I should've told you a long time ago. For my father and mother who supported me more during those years than I ever realised. For my generation - your spirit, your sacrifices and your rebelliousness. And again, as always, for Gabrielle for love and solidarity.
