All is revealed when his fiancee appears unexpectedly at the house - is recognised by the landlady and finally confesses to her suitor that she had lost her false teeth overboard and had to get a new set. The recruit refuses to help but is forced by mesmerism. The mesmerist dies at the site where the gold had been buried - since located by its true owners, one in Aboriginal disguise ...
