A Christmas trip in 1871 to the heart of Northern Gippsland and the Dividing Range from Melbourne : Melbourne to Bunyip, Shady Creek to the Tangil River, Coppermine to Walhalla (Stringer's Creek). The landscape, the gold mines, the surrounding setttlements, an ttempted ascent of Mt Baw-Baw. (PB)
