Mangoes for Preserves, The Beachcomber , single work essay
The Victorian etymologist rejected the import of North Queensland mangoes because of fruit fly, but Victoria has now been found out exporting apples 'riotous with the grubs of codlin moth' to Sydney and Brisbane. This essay goes on to urge the production of mango jam.

In this sketch a Mohammedan immigrant to North Queensland, Hamed of Yaddah, when unable to find a market for three bags of decaying oysters, condemns Christmas as an occasion for drinking and fighting.
