Tale of the harshness of mechanical justice. An artist and his household in the valley of Deladracdemendio famous for their veracity. One night a portrait is daubed with black paint and no-one confessing - the artist uses his truth wheel to discover the guilty party. Shortly before executing his beauteous elder daughter for the crime the artist sleeps and reveals that he had done the deed himself while asleep. (PB)
