In Sacramento USA in the 1850s a sailor, delayed for a night on his journey to San Francisco deposits his gold in the bank. A financial collapse overnight renders his receipt worthless and he eventually disappears overboard on the voyage home. His fellow passengers redeem his money for his family ... competent, simple.
