The Spaces Between: Regionalism and Literary History, Bruce Bennett , single work criticism
Examines means by which Australians can overcome their sense of "psychological exile" in order to achieve a recognition of a local, regional and national Australian identity as well as extending their notions of identity to the geographic region of Asia. Bennett explores ways of achieving an inclusive identity through particular reference to Republicanism, Aboriginal literature and the Ecology movement. Australia's relationship with countries in the Asia-Pacific region is reviewed through the filter of cultural, ethical and technological differences and the possibilities they evoke.
