'Kooborr the Koala (1941) ...was a careful collaboration of naturalist, writer and illustrator with a publishing company of distinction. The result was a new look in nature tales and one which was popular with children and teachers. Kooborr was a slim volume but larger in format than the usual dreary supplementary reader. The type face was clear but bold, and the black and white illustrations against a green wash were animated and forceful....This was natural science uncorrupted by 'fiction' and palatably presented, a forerunner of the straight non-fiction for young readers that was to emerge in the 'sixties.' (H. M. Saxby A History of Children's Literature 1941-1970 (1971): 157-158).
