The Preface explains that the stories in this collection have been written in both English and Indonesian, rather than being translated from one language into the other. This 'allows the author, Dewi Anggraeni, to include in each story, ideas and themes proper to that language, without being constrained by the concern of whether or not they would be acceptable to readers of the second language. [...] Variations between the stories in both languages add to the value of this book for teaching Indonesian culture in Australian universities and schools, without detracting from its appropriateness as an Australian reader for study of the Indonesian language.'
