Tessa's Promise is a well-researched historical novel written primarily for 10 to 14 year olds. The story deals with the experiences of three young orphans who travel to Australia to escape the Irish potato famine. In the telling story of the young orphans' journey from the south coast of New South Wales to Sydney, Pamela O'Connor gives the reader a rich insight into the hardships faced by early migrants.
