'This tells of the Clifford family who leave a comfortable suburban existence in Melbourne to live on a construction camp in Queensland where Mr Clifford works as an accountant. Mrs Clifford has been ordered to the country for her health's sake, so before she and her family join her husband they spend some weeks at a seaside resort out of Brisbane while the children look forward to camp life' (Saxby, A History of Australian Children's Literature 1841-1941, p. 164).
