'John Leonard's survey of Australian verse samples the work of ninetv-six poets whose work has appeared with some frequency in the decade since the appearance of his first Anthology of Contemporary Australian Poetry (Melbourne: Houghton Mifflin, 1990). He has included a poem of mine in this second collection, and I am agreeably surprised to find myself in the company of younger and older writers whose works I have admired from a distance, or whom I have had the pleasure to hear and meet at readings in several States.'
