Notes

S'il me plait, a moi, d'esperer?
  • Author's Preface: It is now some years since the publication of A Tree at the Gate and I have the pleasure of offering another series of poems connected with the tree. The tolerant and civilized city depicted in the first piece has clearly been traced and transferred from ancient Athens, and may be consered to be linked to the city of Callimachus mentioned in two of the later poems....
  • Dedication: For Ada and Michael
