Henry Parker Such (1808-1882) is regarded as the last major printer and publisher of broadside ballads in England. With his family, he established a printing and bookselling business, the 'Such Song Mart' at 123 Union Street, Southwark (South London) in 1849. He remained at this premises for the rest of his career although the reorganisation of street numbers changed the address to 177 Union Street (from 1862) and 183 Union Street (from 1886). Such produced numerous ballads and single-sheet songs, often with the imprint "H. P. Such, Machine Printer and Publisher." After the death of Henry Parker Such in 1882, the family continued his business; from 1917-1929 the press officially became the property of H.P. Such's son-in-law, William Charles Such (formerly Knapp). The business had ceased by 1929.
