BiographyHistory

T. W. Edgeworth David studied geology at Oxford University before moving to Australia to join the New South Wales geological survey team. In 1891 he took up a position at The University of Sydney where he quickly came to academic prominence. His research into the formation of coral atolls took him to Funafuti, Tuvalu and Fiji.

David became a renowned Antarctic adventurer and explorer. Between 1907 and 1914 he made several journey to polar regions including one as expedition leader in 1908. In 1915 David became one of the oldest enlistees in the Allied forces when he joined the Australian Tunnelling Corps.
