1 The Magic of Music : A Story of the Melbourne Centennial Exhibition E. A. F. , 1896 single work short story Melbourne Cup day provides the background to this story. Malcolm Ross out from England is staying with his cousins Lucy and Hector Sutherland on their station for 'colonial experience'. All three plan to go to Melbourne for the Exhibition and the Cup, and their neighbours Charlie and plain bossy Maggie Strachan go too. The Sutherlands stay with Lucy's sister Flora Hardy and her family. Maggie, infatuated with Ross, becomes jealous of Lucy and suggests to Hector that they are secretly in love. The past, and Maggie, interfere with the course of true love, but all ends happily. (PB)
