BiographyHistory

The National Aboriginal Islander Skills Development Association (NAISDA) grew out of the Aboriginal Islander Skills Development Scheme (AISDS), with the aim of 'stimulating and initiating arts activities' for Indigenous peoples. Early training schemes in dance, drama, playwrighting and Pitjantjatjara language included students such as Jack Davis and Maureen Watson. Gradual development of courses and certificate programmes throughout the 1970s and 1980s led to the incorporation of NAISDA on 24 May 1988 and by 1995 NAISDA was able to offer a full Diploma course.
