— Appears in: The Australian Journal , January vol. 7 no. 80 1872; (p. 281-285) The narrator, born in Hobart Town in 1836, was the son of a well-to-do mechanic and had a good education until he ran away to sea when around 14 years old. At first he was involved in the she-oak trade then took up whaling in the Pacific. (PB)
