Xiaoping Zhou's father was persecuted during the Cultural Revolution for disloyalty but was reinstated to his engineering post. Xiaoping began painting at age thirteen and six years later received a post at the high school of his father's engineering factory. He graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the Anhui College of Advanced Edfucation in 1986. After emigrating, he became inspired by Aboriginal art and native Australia. He has exhibited nationally. In 1993, Sketches in Australia was published, a bi-lingual work with about fifty illustrations chosen from over six hundred paintings. It is described as a complex mix showing the interaction of one culture with another. Interview with Zhou Xiaoping was released as a videorecording.recording in 1996.
