Longford made two films called Australia Calls. The first was released in 1913 and the second in 1923. The 1913 feature, written by two of the Bulletin's regular contributors. C. A. Jeffries and John Barr, reinforces the magazine's xenophobic attitudes towards the Asian continent. In warning of the evil of the yellow peril, the film graphically demonstrates an invasion scenario by showing Sydney being overrun by the Asian hordes. While 'good' eventually triumphs over 'evil,' the message firmly warns against complacency. The 1923 Australia Calls was commissioned and produced by the Commonwealth Immigration Office and the British Exhibition Commission. It is essentially a semi-documentary which narrates the experiences of a successful immigrant.
