BiographyHistory

Grey Walls Press was begun by Charles Wrey Gardiner in Billericay, England, to publish Poetry Quarterly, and poetry writtten by himself and others. Between 1947 and 1954 the Press published thirty-six volumes in the Crown Classics series, in which each volume of poetry was introduced by a contemporary poet. Jack Lindsay introduced the volume on William Morris. Gardiner was also a partner in the Falcon Press, which shared offices and staff with Grey Walls. Poetry Quarterly ceased in 1953 and when Falcon Press got into financial difficulties in 1954, the Grey Walls Press was forced to close.
