BiographyHistory

Thomas Cautley Newby, who published in London between 1840 and 1879, was notable for his unscrupulous treatment of new novelists, such as the Bronte sisters, and Anthony Trollope. Newby specialised in the publication of novels, particularly by women authors, and history and biography. He also published some accounts of travel and adventure, including, in 1859, A Panorama of the New World by Kinahan Cornwallis, an account of life on the Australian goldfields.
