'Desda' also wrote the words of the popular songs Your Willy Has Returned Dear [1860], and Cooey! : An Australian Song [1860], both of which were set to music by Ernesto Spagnoletti. Notably, Your Willy Has Returned Dear was dedicated to 'Mrs. F. Messiter', i.e. 'Desda' (presumably by Spagnoletti).
Note that Cooey! has sometimes been attributed to Louisa Atkinson. However, more recent research indicates that the song was in fact written by 'Desda'. It appears to have been first performed at a concert held at Balmain in December 1859, and the Sydney Morning Herald's report on the program specifically states that Cooey! was written by 'the Australian songstress "Desda"' (SMH, 9 December, 1859, p.3). In addition, the publisher details on the cover of the score indicate that Cooey! was published by 'John Davis [sic], draper, Kiandra House, George Street'. This was almost certainly John Davies, whom 'Desda' married in 1861.
