BiographyHistory

Edward Vines was a medical practitioner. After migrating to Australia, he worked for a number of years in Tasmania, before taking up a position as a government medical officer in Western Australia. He was killed during an Aboriginal raid at Braeside Station, near Marble Bar, in September 1899, apparently the unwitting victim of a deterioration in relations between the station manager and local Aboriginal people, which erupted in violence following the abduction of a young Aboriginal woman.
