BiographyHistory

Pavel Sukhatin was the son of a naval officer and joined the Chabarovsk Military School in the Far East. He enlisted with the White Army during the Civil War and left Russia in 1922 to live in Shanghai, where he ran a Russian broadcasting station. He left there in 1948 and came to Australia (in 1949) via the Philippines. In the early 1950s in Sydney, together with Michail Volin, he organised the literary society On the Fifth Continent and served as President for more than sixteen years. In 1965, Australia's Russian literati commemorated their president's forty years of literary achievement with a special programme.
