BiographyHistory

Gilbert was educated at Trinity Grammar School, Kew, Vic., as was Geoffrey Adeney (q.v.) who co-authored with Gilbert a book of poems Wrought of the Mist (1919). Gilbert and Adeney were early champions of the works of Martin Boyd (q.v.), who had also attended Trinity Grammar. They reviewed his first two novels for the school magazine Mitre and were probably the first to reveal publicly that these novels, written under the pseudonym Martin Mills, were in fact by Boyd.
