BiographyHistory

Dennis David Myer Cohen founded the Cresset Press in London in 1927. In its early years, the press issued few titles, typically limited illlustrated editions of classic works of literature. The Cresset Reprint Library, founded in 1946, continued the firm's high production standards.

During and after the Second World War, while still maintaining a high standard of production, the Press issued some less extravagant publications, including novels and political writings. Cresset Press was the first publisher of Lucinda Brayford in 1946, and other novels by Martin Boyd, and some of the Australian work of E. L. Grant Watson. The Press was sold in 1967 to Barrie and Jenkins, and subsequently became part of the Random Century Group, where it continued as an imprint.
