Moni Lai Storz was born of Chinese parents as Lai Suan Tin and grew up in Ipoh before settling in Melbourne. A speaker of Cantonese and Hakkein as well as Malay, she gained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from Monash University. She has worked as a sociologist, interculturalist and senior lecturer in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at Monash University. Dr Storz has served also as an executive consultant in cross-cultural management for Global Business Strategies and has contributed to several books in the discipline of accelerated learning. In 1997 she read at the Sydney Writers' Festival and has been a member of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW). Her short story, Sisters, received an honorary mention in the Asianweek short story competition.
