The author of more than 25 stage plays, as well as 5 dramas for ABC Radio between 1976 and 1977, Wendy Beckett has also carved out careers as a director, interviewer, university lecturer, librettist and journalist. In 1983, at the age of 22, she founded her own women's theatre company, Colours Inc, and brought to the stage several plays that toured Australia, most notably Without Limits-Isadora Duncan, Anais Nin-One of Her Lives, Claudel, Losing My Religion, Love Therapy and Refugees.

As a director she has overseen more than 40 theatrical productions in England, France, Scotland, Australia and New York, with these including works by include works by Shakespeare, along with classic dramas such as The Cherry Orchard and Waiting For Godot. She also directed a revival of Patrick White's The Ham Funeral.

As a journalist Beckett has interviewed some of the best minds of our time, including Leonard Bernstein, Yehudi Menuhin and Martha Graham. Her interest in literature has also seen her and published a number of study guides.
