BiographyHistory

Director, writer, conceptualist.

Between 1982 and 1986 John Baylis was the Administrator and performer for The One Extra Dance Company. In 1984 he took up additional responsibilities as a co-ordinator at Sydney's Performance Space. As a dramaturg he has collaborated with Nigel Kellaway on the latter's 1986 production Give Me A Rose To Show Me How Much You Care ; and with Entre'acte Theatre on Ostraka (1986). During 1986 Baylis also collaborated with Richard Vella, Caroline Wilkins and Tony Strachan to create a music theatre version of Ray Lawler's Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll during a two week extensive workshop at the National Playwrights' Conference. A collaboration between Baylis, Kellaway, Annette Tesoriero and Richard Vella in 1990 resulted in the music theatre piece, Tales of Love. Baylis has also undertaken the position of Projects Co-ordinator for Sydney University's Theatre Studies Unit.
