Notes

  • It is believed that there were two Andrew Robertsons in the 1800s, and this is the fiction author. Both Miller and Macartney (p.406) and Miller (p.650) erroneously attribute Essays on Various Subjects, Literary, Social Semi-political and Ecclesiastical (1874) to the author of The Kidnapped Squatter : and other Australian tales (1891) and Nuggets in the Devil's Punch Bowl : and other Australian tales (1894). Miller also calls him the Reverend Andrew Robertson, a Melbourne Presbyterian minister (p.861). ADB(BR) established that the minister died in 1875, and wrote essays and pamphlets on Church and State (p.217). Picture Australia also gives 1875 as date of death. This would mean the fiction was published almost 20 years after his death, and not in character with his usual ethico-religious topics.
