BiographyHistory

Winifred Mona Campbell (née Hull) was born in 1927 in Woonona, NSW, and as a child lived with her parents Claude and Dorothy in Woonona, Tilba Tilba, Nowra and Bulli (all on the NSW coast).  In 1936 the family moved to Gumly Gumly, Coolamon, and finally Cartwright’s Hill (all near Wagga Wagga) in 1939.

On leaving school she chose different work experiences: photographic retoucher, governess or teacher on stations at Henty, Kothi near Gloucester, and Yerong Creek, and employment in a bakery, a large store (all near or in Wagga), a jewellers’ cigarette lighter department, and in the editorial department of the Woman’s Mirror (both in Sydney).  In 1956 she married Keith Campbell, and lived in Broken Hill for six years (where they had four children) before the family moved to the Queensland border where Keith was employed in repairing an isolated section of the dingo proof fence. In 1964 they returned to Gumly Gumly, spent two years in Ardlethan, and returned to Wagga Wagga in 1974 where she has lived ever since.

Some documents may be found in the Charles Sturt University Regional Archives, Wagga Wagga.
