Lowe's poems and stories have been published internationally, and he has had songs recorded by The Whitlams, The Impossibles and jazz diva Lily Dior. He was co-founder and editor of Homebrew magazine (1997-1999).

Lowe spent most of the 1990s in Newtown, moving to the Blue Mountains at the beginning of 2002 to concentrate on further writing projects. As well as participating in judging poetry prizes, Lowe publishes and broadcasts reviews for a number of magazines and radio stations.
