BiographyHistory

Jane Harris emigrated from England to New Zealand in 1866. She lived in Australia for about seven years from the late 1880s to the mid 1890s. She was active in Christian spiritualist circles. She published under the pseudonym 'Jenny Wren', a pseudonym which was also used by Nellie Cruttenden (q.v.) and perhaps other authors. From Morris Miller onwards bibliographies (including BAL A-E) have incorrectly attributed the 1890 volume of verse Leaves of Love by Jennie Wren to Cruttenden, whereas it was written by Jane Harris. She was also the author of Women's Work and Destiny (1884)
