BiographyHistory

James Aikenhead arrived in Launceston, Van Diemen's Land, in the Janet in 1835. He was active in business and as a politician in Launceston and established the Launceston Examiner newspaper with the Reverend John West and Jonathan Stammers Waddell in 1842. Aikenhead edited the Examiner until 1869 when he transferred his interest to his son William Aikenhead.
