BiographyHistory

Francis Ellard arrived in Sydney, New South Wales, 6 December 1832, via Hobart, with 'a sufficient stock of instruments and sheet music to commence business in February 1833.' (Skinner) Ellard was also a musical instrument maker and printed music, including compositions by Isaac Nathan (q.v.). In '1841 he issued the first edition of Nathan's Long Live Victoria.' (ibid.) The economic depression of the 1840s was difficult for Ellard and he ceased business in February 1847.
