BiographyHistory

Allan McLean migrated from the Scottish Highlands to Gippsland, Victoria, as a young child. He worked as a stock and station agent in Maffra and became successively a shire councillor, member of the Victorian Parliament, Premier of Victoria and finally, Federal Minister of Trade and Customs and Deputy Prime Minister of Australia. He was the nephew of Angus McLean (q.v.).
