BiographyHistory

A banker and landowner, Joseph Phelps Robinson arrived in Sydney in 1842 'as a partner of Benjamin Boyd and resident manager of the Royal Bank of Australia'. With Boyd, Robinson acquired land at Eden and on the Monaro. The following year, he moved to Port Phillip where he became an Elective Member of the first Legislative Council, 1844-1856, representing the Town of Melbourne.

Robinson died at the age of 33 from scarlet fever at his cottage, Clee Villa, on the north shore of Sydney Harbour.
