BiographyHistory

British television director/producer and actor.

The film and television career of Lionel Harris spans more than three decades. As an actor he appeared in a number of films and television shows in the early 1950s, including The Tales of Hoffmann (1951), Androcles and the Lion (1951), Ivanhoe (1952) and Laxdale Hall (1953). By 1953 Harris had moved into the roles of producer and director. His credits include episodes from television theatre productions such as the BBC Sunday Night Theatre (1953-54), ITV Play of the Week (1957-1961); the Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre (1963), The Wednesday Play (1966-67), Armchair Theatre (1966) and Love Story (1963-1974), including Alan Seymour's And it Wasn't Just the Feathers (q.v. 1965).

As a director Harris has also worked episodes for The Hidden Truth (1964), The Indian Tales of Rudyard Kipling (1964), The Gold Robbers (1969) and one episode each for Upstairs, Downstairs (1973), Against the Crowd (1975) and Funny Man (1981).
