BiographyHistory

Established in 1963 by Josep Torra i Mas, Ediciones Vértice (aka Vertex Editions) was initially devoted to popular fiction novels. These were published within a series of collections - Galaxy (Galaxia), Eternal (Eterno) and Suspense and/or Obsession (variously identified as Angustia or Obsesion). In late 1964 Torra began to edit comics for the newly merged British publishing company Fleetway Publications and the International Publishing Corporation (IPC). Four years later he expanded Vértice's operations to include comics, offering Spanish translations of superheroes IPC and from Marvel Comics. This focus saw the company effectively abandon its interest in fiction novels. In 1980 Vértice began to test the market for novels with the Toucan imprint, but this venture ended the following year when Vértice was itself forced to close down.
