Film and television director/producer.

Dobson's career as a film and television director began in early 1970s through such TV series as Matlock Police (1974-75), Homicide (1975-76), King's Men (1976), Bluey (1976) and Skyways (ca. 1979-80). He also wrote several telemovies, notably Demolition and Gone to Ground (both 1978), along with the 1977 feature film The Mango Tree.

During the 1980s and 1990s Dobson directed episodes for the high profile Australian series Young Ramsay (1980), A Country Practice (1983), Return to Eden (1983 mini-series), Five Mile Creek (1984-85), Return to Eden (1986 series), Willing and Abel (1987), Rafferty's Rules (ca. 1987-90) and High Flyers (1999). During this period he 1982 feature Sqizzy Taylor and a number of telemovies - notably Survive the Savage Sea (1992), Miracle in the Wilderness (1992) and The Thorn Birds: The Missing Years (1996), along with episodes for several US TV series - including Acapulco H.E.A.T. (1993, also as producer) and Babylon 5 (1996-97).

Since 2000 Dobson has been associated with the series Ponderosa (2001-02), Don't Blame the Koalas (2002) and Savages Crossing (2009).
