BiographyHistory

English-born Edwin Doidge emigrated to New Zealand as a child with his family and worked as a journalist in Auckland before moving to New South Wales in the early 1880s. In 1883 he married Mary Lucy Chilcott at Bourke, New South Wales. The couple lived in Cootamundra, where they had seven children, and where Doidge was editor and proprietor of the Cootamundra Liberal. A number of the Doidge children returned to New Zealand, including Frederick Widdowson Doidge (1884-1954), who became a successful journalist and politician.
