Jeffery and Elizabeth Blackburn find themselves at isolated Wolford Hall, occupied by a group–each strangers to the other–who have been invited to the property by a 'Mr Rea'. As the mysteries of the house thicken–including the appearance of unsigned typewritten notes–the couple begin to suspect a connection with a five-year-old unsolved murder and realise that one of the house's inhabitants is that murderer, Edward Anson, in disguise.

    'Jeffery and Elizabeth Blackburn ran into the most fantastic adventure of their young lives when a storm forced them to shelter under the roof of Wolford Hall, owned by the emaciated Norman Marie and his witch-llke sister. Felena. Here they were Introduced to a group of people, strangers all, summoned from the city by a gentleman calling himself 'Mr. Rea.' It seemed all a silly practical joke until the guests were told of the thing that walked by night across the lonely plain. Then a strange, wailing cry and a stranger discovery outside in the rain-sodden garden raised the curtain on what was to prove a remarkable test of courage and mind.' (6 January 1941, p.4.

    Satisfied that there is some definite link between the strange assortment of guests at Wolford Hall and the Anson murder case, Jeffery Blackburn, with Inspector Read, sets out to Investigate that five fear-old crime. But they run up against an unexpected piece of evidence which complicates matters considerably. Meanwhile Steve Buckley, fired with enthusiasm for detection, attempts a little investigation on his own, and the results of this lead to further startling developments in the mysterious old house on Salisbury Plain.     Jeffery Blackburn, with Inspector Read, is confronted with the fact that there is more than one mystery under the roof of Wolford Hall. Again the mysterious typewritten notes make their appearance and Jeffery receives a hurried telephone call from Elizabeth. While this clarifies certain points, it leads Blackburn's wife into a very tight corner as this episode races to an exciting climax on the lonely Salisbury Plain. (24 February 1941, p.5).

    10. The Most Dangerous Game (10 March 1941)

    Armed with the dead reporter's key code, Jeffery, Elizabeth and Read penetrate the secret of the organ in the underground room. But a fresh surprise awaits them, which merely adds to the mystery surrounding the Identity of the killer, Edward Anson. Meanwhile certain curious suggestions by Professor Mitchell arouse Steve Buckley's suspicions and once again he takes the protesting Petal McGuire adventuring. Then comes the final surprise as Jeffery unearths fresh evidence in a manner most unexpected. (10 March 1941, p.3)

    And now comes the last episode of our serial, in which the killer, Edward Anson, is unmasked. Here are a few final clues for listeners: Anson has been in the serial from the beginning: he has constantly been pushed into the forefront of the action and he has done several rather curious things that will bear close examination. But we warn you—he has covered his tracks very well and he may well turn out to be the least suspected person. But he has betrayed himself at least twice . . . and now, can you pick Edward Anson before the curtain comes down on this final episode? (24 March 1941, p.3).
