AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'The star picture of the evening was a thrilling Australian drama ''The Attack on the Gold Escort," which portrayed the terrors of the road, during the time when bushranging was rife, in a vivid and realistic manner.'

Source:

'Olympic Pictures', Kapunda Herald, 8 September 1911, p.5.

Notes

  • This film is easily confused with Captain Midnight and Captain Starlight, both bushranger films made in 1911 by Spencer's Pictures: Captain Midnight has a chapter called 'Attack on the Gold Escort', whereas in some areas, Attack on the Gold Escort seems to have been marketed as Captain Starlight, King of the Bushrangers; or, The Attack on the Gold Escort (see, for example, this advertisement from the West Australian, 7 June 1911, p.1).

However, reports that it was made by Pathé Frères (see the West Australian, 7 August 1911, p.1, as above) and that it used cast members from the Bohemian Dramatic Company (see, for example, 'Edisonia Pictures', Geelong Advertiser, 19 June 1911, p.4) strongly suggest that these are three separate films.
