In the great city of an empire that has been at peace for fifty years, the Empress arrives and a rebellion begins.

Notes

  • Steampunk note: Featured in an anthology of steampunk romance fiction. The central city of the story is powered by steam, to the point where the city seems surrounded by cloud; travel is by steam-powered transports or by dirigible. The rebellion is eventually overcome by clockwork angels and demons.
