Each individual story has been recorded in Aboriginal English (Kriol), interpreted in colloquial English and proofread by the storytellers. The editor Noel Olive says, 'The men tell of past adventures and trouble; they relive their lives as stockmen on the stations of the Northwest; they discuss their traditions and religion; they reveal their memories of resistance, dispossession, and exploitation that came with white contact; and they talk about contemporary problems and look toward the future'.
