Notes

  • Guy Mannering was adapted for the stage from Sir Walter Scott's novel of the same name. The novel was adapted by Daniel Terry (1816) and by Robert Reece (1866). AustLit has not yet established which version was produced in Sydney in 1868, although it seems more likely to be Terry's adaptation as newspaper columns relating to the October 1868 performance refer to Guy Mannering as a musical drama. (See, for instance, 'Prince of Wales Opera House.' Empire, 22 Oct 1868: 2.)
  • Guy Mannering is included in AustLit because it falls within the parameters of the Colonial Newspapers and Magazines Project.

Production Details

  • Performed at the Prince of Wales Opera House, Sydney, September and October 1868.
