Notes

  • William Harrison Ainsworth's novel Jack Sheppard was adapted for the English stage by several writers including J. B. Buckstone, T. Greenwood and J. T. Haines (all in 1839), W. H. Murray (in 1840) and later by J. Hatton (in 1898). AustLit has not yet established which of the earlier versions of the play was produced in Melbourne and Sydney in 1868.
  • Jack Sheppard is included in AustLit because it was produced in Australian theatres during the colonial era.
