The 'Flaneur' muses on Sydney's recent political and social occurrences. He includes his insights into the British response to Australians following the attempted assassination of H. R. H. Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh; the suggested introduction of legislation to effect the outlawing of intemperance; and the treatment, by the Kiama Pilot, of Legislative Assembly member, Allan Macpherson.
